A huge benefit of being a small school is giving students the opportunity to
participate in a wide variety of activities. It’s not just the “best” students
who participate; we encourage all students to be highly active in our diverse
offerings. SCIS is rich in opportunities for personal growth. Co-curricular
activities and character development programs challenge students to develop their
interests and talents and to reach out to the community in which we live.
Watch us perform! Students are engaged in student council, music, band, choir, drama,
musicals, the arts, publications, and lots of sporting activities. The Pudong Campus
is part of the Association for China and Mongolian International Schools (ACAMIS) which provides sporting and cultural
exchanges with international schools throughout China. Our upper school students are proud
of the high level of participation and the Dragon Spirit exhibited throughout the year.
While the lower school students are busy exploring Shanghai, our upper school students
embark on yearly cultural trips (that are tied our curriculum) to cities within and outside of
China. This year’s trips include Hangzhou, Nanjing, Beijing, Guilin, and Hong Kong. We will
also travel to participate in a Habitat for Humanity program, take two trips to attend
conferences for our Model United Nations groups, and we have adopted a Village Banking
Program that allows students to become involved with a local community by offering no-interest
loans to prospective entrepreneurs. These, in addition to the cultural and athletic trips that
are taken, demonstrate our commitment to provide real-world experiences in a small-school,
nurturing environment with a large variety of ways for students to become involved.
