If you’re planning a trip, you must first know your destination.
At SCIS, we expect high levels of success in all of our Expected School-
wide Learning Results (ESLRs), and we provide a range of assessments from
standardized testing to authentic classroom assessments.
Standardized Testing
Grade two through grade ten students will take this computerized assessment in the fall and spring.
The assessment results will help us to identify individual areas of strength and weakness.
In addition, parents can compare their student’s performance to that of an average student
in the United States.
Pre Standardized Achievement Test
Tenth and eleventh grade students will take the PSAT in October
Standardized Achievement Test (required for entrance into US colleges and universities)
Students must sign up with the CollegeBoard. SCIS suggests that all eleventh and
twelfth graders take the SAT.

School Wide Authentic Assessments: Developed by SCIS
Grade three through grade eight students will take this writing assessment in the fall and spring of
each year. Teachers will use the results for diagnostic purposes, student and teacher goal
setting, and analysis of growth at end of year. Students will be assessed on the following
writing traits: Ideas and Content, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and
Conventions.
Running records and Comprehension
All students will be assessed for their reading level, reading skills, and comprehension throughout the school year.
Teacher Developed Math Diagnostic Assessment
All students will be formally assessed in math in the fall and spring.
Informal assessments will occur as needed throughout the year. Teachers
will use the results for diagnostic purposes, student and teacher goal setting,
and analysis of growth at end of year.
Individual assessments are developed by classroom teachers for all ESLR’s
throughout the various units as learning tools for student success.
Each student at SCIS will develop a portfolio of work and assessments throughout
the school year that reflect the ESLR’s. Teachers and students will share portfolios
with parents at parent conferences.
Progress Reports are issued quarterly for both lower and upper school students.
The upper school semester grades are reflected on the high school transcripts.
Parent conferences are held twice a year in the fall and spring.
Classroom teachers have frequent weekly or biweekly communication with
parents regarding the classroom program. They also welcome communication and visits
from parents to develop a high level of partnership for the success of every student.
