SCIS provides a challenging and creative program that is based on an American
framework but meets the standards of many Western Countries.
At SCIS, our curriculum committee works to regularly incorporate the best of the
educational methodologies, curriculum, and materials from around the world. Our teachers
make a difference in ensuring that SCIS is meeting and exceeding the national standards
of Western countries (U.S., England, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand). Our staff
inspires change and creates truly international learning environments for students.
For example:
Australia and New Zealand have been on the leading edge of reading and language arts development
world-wide. We have used the Australian documents as a base, but have incorporated specific skills
from the USA, UK, and Canada to make sure our documents are thorough.
In math, Ontario, Canada has had some of the best curriculum development in the world.
We work from some of these documents, but our teachers from around the world carefully check
off and incorporate the skills from their home countries to make sure that students can repatriate
easily.
Our science and math are hands-on programs that develop deep understanding of scientific and
mathematical concepts. Our main program materials, Math Investigations and Full Option Science
System stem from the USA. Our teachers utilize a variety of materials (and incorporate their own
creative ideas) to provide rigor and to stimulate children’s natural curiosity and love of learning.
