Early Childhood Principal, Hongqiao CampusStacey Gailey

Welcome Back to an exciting and fun filled year on the Hongqiao campus!

I am thrilled to be a part of an organization that inspires children to learn, honors its community, and has rich traditions. This is my second year with the SCIS family and I look forward to a continued partnership with our community. It is my honor to work with our families to create memorable experiences for each child.

I was born and raised in the United States in Puyallup Washington. Puyallup is best known for the Western Washington Fair and daffodils.

I do not have any children of my own, but I have many nieces and nephews who hold a special place in my heart! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, fly fishing, watching all sports and traveling. In the US, I am an avid scrap booker, but have taken a sabbatical while I am living in China!

I look forward to sharing a love of learning with your children and encouraging their hopes and dreams!

Sincerely,

Stacey Gailey

Lower School Principal, Hongqiao CampusMichael Donaldson

Welcome to SCIS Hongqiao campus! As we like to say in our student assemblies, “It’s great to be a Hongqiao Dragon!”

In the Hongqiao lower school, for 2007-08 we enroll around 650 students from pre-school through grade 5. In addition to living in one of the most interesting and rapidly developing cities in the world, we are fortunate enough to spend each day within a vibrant, diverse school community. Our students and their families come from over 40 different countries, and our teaching faculty represent the best of best from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the UK, South Africa, Japan, Mexico and of course China! While our student population continues to grow, we will always be a community-minded school with the help and support of our school community. In a large, exciting city like Shanghai, we aim to provide a comfortable and safe environment that offers the best in international education for our children.

On a personal note, I am now entering my fifth year with SCIS, after spending ten years in public education in British Columbia, Canada. Prior to coming to Shanghai, I spent three years involved with international school administration in Qingdao and Nanjing, China. My wife Joan and our young son are both native to Shanghai, giving me a special feeling of home in this wonderful city.

Whether you are a current SCIS family or a prospective one, I hope you will feel comfortable dropping by our school for a chat or a tour. As principal, I am pleased and proud to meet you and welcome your children to our school.

Sincerely,

Michael Donaldson

Upper School Principal, Hongqiao Campus

Greetings and welcome to the SCIS-Hongqiao Upper School! It is indeed a very exciting and dynamic time for the Hongqiao campus. With continued commitment to an excellent curriculum program, recent construction allowing the campus to become a full PK-12 facility, and plans to include the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in 2008, SCIS-Hongqiao is at the forefront of educational excellence in Shanghai. As I have only just joined this exceptional learning community, I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself and my family.

I was born in Kranj, Yugoslavia, to American parents of Irish, Norwegian, and English decent. My father's work with the UN and Asian Development Bank took our family to many different countries. I consider myself very fortunate to have attended such schools as the Karachi American School, the Damascus Community School, Jakarta International School, Cairo American College, and the International School of Manila.

My undergraduate studies were completed at the University of San Diego where I received a Bachelor of Arts and majored in Political Science and Philosophy. Shortly thereafter, I obtained a single subject teaching credential in the social sciences. I have also completed a Master's Degree in International Education with Framingham State College and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration with National University.

I began my career in education working with At-Risk students in San Diego. In 1996, I decided to return to the international life and accepted a teaching position at the American School of Durango, México. I was offered the principalship in my fourth year at ASD. After eight years in Durango, we decided to embark on a new adventure and moved to Phnom Penh, Cambodia where I was Secondary Principal at the International School of Phnom Penh from 2004-2007.

My wife, Andrea, is also an educator within the upper school program. We are SCIS-Hongqiao parents as well. Our daughters, Natalia (5 yrs) and Danielle (3 yrs), were most excited when they learned of becoming young dragons at their new school. Go Dragons! As a family, we are very proud to be a part of the SCIS community of learners, and look forward to our time in Shanghai and China.

I invite you to explore the recent renovations to the campus, learn more about our first-rate college-preparatory program, or discover the unique elements of student life at the school. Again, welcome to SCIS-Hongqiao Upper School.
