Principal - Lower School

Welcome to SCIS Pudong campus, home of the Dragons! SCIS Pudong is proud to be part of a learning community of schools that place a high value on the individual child within a diverse, international setting. I’m honored to be the lower school principal at the Pudong campus.

I grew up in Montana in a very small town called Chinook. A Chinook refers to unseasonably warm winds that come through the area during the bitter cold winter days, providing much needed relief. It was a wonderful place to grow up where friends and neighbors became extended family.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Pacific Lutheran University in Washington State and received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. My Master’s degree, also in the field of Special Education, was completed at the University of Washington in Seattle. Over the course of my career I have served in many roles, as Classroom Teacher, Principal, and Central Office Administrator. My husband, Tom, is the school psychologist/counselor for the SCIS schools. We have two grown children who live in the Pacific Northwest.

Tom and I have two young adult children who reside in Washington State. Our daughter Kate graduated with a Business Marketing degree and works for Starbucks. Our son graduated with an Aeronautical Science degree and is currently flying for a Seattle based radio station. We are very proud parents and hope they will come to visit us while we’re living in Shanghai.

The Pudong campus is a beautiful, growing facility that welcomes you and your children. We have a very talented and energetic staff of educators whose backgrounds and experiences will bring enriched opportunities to your children. I invite you to be a part of campus life and to volunteer in your child’s classroom. I encourage you to become an active participant in our parent organization, PAFA (Parents and Friends Association). PAFA provides outstanding support with many wonderful events and activities for our students and families.

Please visit and take an active role in your children’s education!

On behalf of the entire staff, let me welcome you to the SCIS Pudong campus. This is my fourth year with SCIS, and each one has been a wonderful experience of personal and professional growth.

Having grown up in Winona, Minnesota, I now find myself a long way removed from the snowball fights – yet the Shanghai mosquitoes help me feel more at home. For the last few years, my family has called Hendersonville, North Carolina home.

I graduated from Valparaiso University with a degree in History and Secondary Education. I later received a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Capella University.

This is my eleventh year working in international schools. I met my wife Laurie while we were in Cairo, Egypt. From there we journeyed to Kaohsiung, Taiwan for five years. It was there that our two eldest girls were born. From Taiwan, we started our SCIS adventure in Hangzhou, where our third daughter - Mei Lee - was born, before finally moving to Shanghai to the Pudong campus.

When I am not in school, I enjoy a number of sports and the company of friends. Shanghai has been a great place to call home and we hope to stay and make even stronger connections.

I feel very fortunate to have found a home within SCIS. I value the commitment to providing a strong education to each student within a system that encourages the development of the entire child. I take a great deal of pride in all that we have accomplished thus far and look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with your questions and comments. I wish you the best towards a very successful year.
