SCIS Services

Food Service
Students in our full day programs are served a daily hot lunch as part of their fees.

Eurest is the food provider for the Hongqiao Campus and Hangzhou International School. Eurest offers food service to other international schools in Shanghai, and a number of joint-venture companies and factories around the globe.

The Pudong Campus food service is provided by Luna, which has restaurants and a catering service in Shanghai.

State of the art facilities have been constructed on all campuses and lunches are prepared and served on site. The weekly menu is a mix of Chinese and Western dishes, and includes a salad bar, a choice of two main courses, a choice of at least two side dishes, daily fresh vegetables, daily soup, dessert (fruit salad, yogurt, pastry), fruit juices, and milk. Students are allowed seconds on all items on the menu with the exception of desserts. The food purchases, preparation, and hygiene standards are of the highest level, ensuring that students can enjoy a high quality lunch every day.

Transportation
Getting children safely to and from school is a high priority. Our transportation service is available to SCIS and HIS students in Shanghai and Hangzhou who live within a reasonable distance from school (please see transportation policy in the application document). This is an optional service, and families may choose to provide their own transportation. SCIS and HIS use a combination of vans and small buses that are equipped with individual seat belts. We provide door-to-door or housing complex pick-ups and drop-offs as stated in our guidelines.

Uniform Policy
SCIS and HIS students wear a smart, but relaxed uniform each day. We believe that a uniform promotes a sense of orderliness and school community. Further, uniforms reduce the competition in wearing fashionable and sometimes expensive clothing, particularly among the older students. The lower school has light blue SCIS shirts and navy bottoms. Upper school students wear khaki bottoms and navy SCIS shirts. Students may wear their choice of shoes and jackets.

The uniform policy can extend to the area of haircuts, jewelry, or other aspects of personal appearance. These must be tasteful, not distracting, disturbing, offensive in the context of our host culture, or otherwise inappropriate for the standards of our school community. Please see our parent-student handbook for further details.

Health and Safety
Our school employs a full time western nurse to oversee health and safety issues at each of our campuses and to screen students for eyesight and hearing difficulties. Feel free to contact our nurse, Roxanne Michaud, with any questions you might have concerning your child's health and safety. To participate in athletic programs at SCIS or HIS, we ask that parents submit the medical release form found below. Please print and return to your building secretary.
